If you’re looking at security cameras for you home and you’ve come across the Blink security cameras you might have noticed that they have 2 options. They have the Blink and the Blink XT options which are one of the best security cameras for when you are on a budget.
But what is the difference between them and which one is the best choice for you?
We’ll give you an overview on each camera and break down what each one offers to help you decide which security camera will work best in your home.
Blink Security Camera Overview
The Blink security camera is an indoor camera that you can buy singly or in multiple sets. It works with a sync unit which plugs into your router and then links to the camera via wi-fi. One of the good things about these blink cameras are that they work using batteries so you don’t have any wiring to think about, making them easy to install for most people.
The camera comes with a mount so you can attach it to the wall, all you need is 1 screw to fix the mount. These cameras are square shaped and you can just as easily stand this on a table or a shelf.
This is an internal camera so you can have it facing your front door to monitor anyone coming in your home or if you want to track your pets or monitor your living area you can attach it in an area that gives you the fullest view.
To control the cameras and set up for movement detection you need to download an app to your smartphone and link via wi-fi then you are ready to go. You can also set up an Alexa skill and view your live feed on an Alexa device with voice control.
The videos are activated by a movement sensor and alerts are sent to you phone so that you know and you can access your video from the cloud storage. You can also view your home with live view from the app on your phone.
Blink XT Security Camera Overview
The Blink XT Security Camera is the next version of the Blink and it is weatherproof so it can be used outdoors and indoors. It’s black in color and it uses a sync unit connected to your wi-fi router to link the cameras.
You can get the Blink XT as a single camera set or if you want to cover the inside and outside of your home you can buy up to a 5 camera system. If you want even more cameras than that you can buy extras and run up to 10 on one sync unit. The cameras are wire less and run on batteries so it makes it easier to connect on your own.
Download the app and you can set all of the parameters for each camera. You can name each camera and see a thumbnail of each one on your phone on one screen. This makes it easy to identify if you want to click onto live view on one of the cameras. You can also set up your cameras with Alexa which means that you can ask Alexa to show you a certain camera and it will show on screen if you have Fire TV or an Echo device with a viewer screen.
When movement is detected it will trigger a video clip and send a notification to your phone. The XT also has night vision so you can get a good view on night video clips too.
The video clips are available on the cloud storage and you have 2 hours free storage which will probably be enough to hold a few clips.
Blink vs Blink XT
What’s the same
Apart from the color of these Blink cameras they are very similar. They both work with a sync unit and can be mixed and matched together if you want to mix them to save money. Made from a similar design these are both small cameras that are wire less and work from battery power.
The same app is required for both types of security camera with the similar set ups for the motion detection. Both can be integrated with Alexa devices and have the same cloud storage options with 2 hours free.
The main difference that’s obvious is that the Blink XT is waterproof so it’s suitable for outside and inside where the Blink is for indoor only. The Blink XT cameras have been upgraded too so that they have infrared night vision which isn’t on the Blink indoor camera so that the night views on the video clips are better quality. With the upgrades to the XT the price reflects that and it is more expensive but this range of cameras are still very budget friendly.
The Blink and Blink XT cameras offer an easy to use and install budget security system. They’re not perfect and in certain areas other brands give a better deal like the 2 hour cloud storage which is 7 days on the Arlo Pro.
They have some limitations, there is no 2 way audio and there is limited length of live view but some other security cameras have the same issue.
What these cameras are good for is they are very easy to install, you can fit up to 10 cameras to 1 sync unit and you can buy a small kit and build up as you go. You have a range of up to 100 feet from the hub so you can use these cameras most places around your home. Most of all these cameras make having a home security system within the budget of most people.
