The Kasa Cam is an internal security camera on an adjustable metal pedestal stand which makes it very sturdy to stand on a shelf or table. There is also a mounting plate that you can attach to the wall if you don’t have anywhere suitable to stand it. You have to place your camera near an electrical outlet as it needs to be plugged in. There is a 10 foot micro usb cable that connects the camera. You can adjust the view of the camera with the hinged pedestal or by moving the camera which can be turned on it’s fitting to give a better view.
The camera is 1080p HD giving a very clear picture and has a 25 foot range of night vision so it can give good video recordings 24/7 with clarity. Once you have your security camera in the position you want and plugged in for power it’s ready to be set up with wi-fi and the app.
Download the Kasa App on your smartphone and follow the instructions to create an account. It gives you the option to add a device, choose your camera and name it. Once the app has found the camera you will get the options to switch on alerts. You then need to choose the wi-fi network to finish setting up.
Once your Kasa Cam is fully setup with wi-fi you will be able to access and see the live view. The picture is crisp and clear with the capability of zooming in if you want to watch a specific area. You have the option of video rotation so if you’ve attached it to the ceiling or the wall you can show the video upside down (so you can see it the right way up). You have night vision so if you install this in your baby’s bedroom you will have a good view of your child or if you have a burglar at night you should have a good clip to show to the authorities. You can also set up with an echo device like the Echo Show so that you can ask Alexa to show you the camera and it will show the live view.
2 way talking
The video or live view will also have sound if you choose that option and if you are watching live view you can press a button on the screen which will allow you to speak and release it so you can hear a response a bit like a walkie talkie.
The alerts can be set up on the Kasa Cam 1080p Smart Home Security Camera so you don’t have to watch a live view all day. You can set it up to send an alert to your phone at certain times of the day if and motion is detected. You can adjust the motion sensitivity if required to combat multiple alerts and you can also use the zone setup so you can limit the motion to certain areas like doorways and windows. You can also set it up for voice activation which might be useful if it’s in your baby’s bedroom. You can run the camera 24/7 or set timings to suit when you’re in or out or asleep.
The alerts produce a video which is stored on the Kasa Care secure cloud storage. This allows you to have 1gb of storage, which relates to approximately 4 hours or 1080p video footage and this is kept for 2 days for up to 3 cameras for no cost. There are plans that you can buy for longer and larger storage if the free storage is not sufficient for your needs.
What people love about this camera is the fact that it is cheaper than some on the market with just as good quality of video and also that you can get 2 days worth of cloud storage free. They are liking to 2 way conversations that you can have with other people or the pets. Customers are finding that they get a good wide-angled view of the area they are checking and have no problems checking the videos when alerted or using the app to check live view.
The biggest issues buyers have had is the fact that you can’t watch live stream longer than 15 minutes before it asks if you want to continue or shuts off. People have had issues with the camera not picking up all movements and then not managing to record all of the movement if at all and people have had problems with the camera not working after a while.
This Kasa Cam 1080p Smart Home Security Camera by TP-Link is a well designed, high quality camera at a reasonable price which can give you all the features that you need to feel safe in your home. You can keep a check throughout the day on different areas in your home depending on how many cameras that you have and know that you will be alerted when anything moves that shouldn’t.
