The Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera can be easily installed outside your house, it’s fully waterproof including the cables and it plugs into an electrical outlet whether you have one outside or inside. All the fittings you need to secure the camera and connector box as well as cable clips to keep the cabling neat against the wall is in the box. If you’re worried that a white camera is going to be very visible against the background color of your house you can buy colored silicone skins to go around the camera which will help it blend in more with your home.
The Nest Camera has a wide angled view of 130 degrees which can give a good view of the area around your doorway and the manual included helps with figuring out the best place to situate it. You get full 24/7 live video stream and the quality of the video can be up to 1080p HD for super clarity. This takes more of a bandwidth so if you prefer you have the option to change that to 720p or less using the Nest app.
You may be more worried about strangers around your property at night more than the daytime and you will get good night time video feed with the infrared LED lights used. You are going to know if you have intruders and you will get a good picture for police if it is required.
If you have a delivery when you’re not home or a visitor you have the option via the app to speak to them as the Nest security camera has a speaker and microphone. If you’re only a couple of minutes away you have the option of asking the delivery man to leave your item on the doorstep and save yourself the hassle of collecting it at the depot.
The app is easy to install on your smart phone and gives you many options to make your security camera work the way you want. You follow the instructions to give your details and then you can add your camera, it will have a code that you scan that will identify what type of camera it is. You will need your wi-fi code and you can name your camera which makes it easy to identify when you have more than one.
Once your Nest security camera has paired with your network it will start recording immediately. The feed is stored in the cloud using Nest Aware which is a subscription service, you can choose 5 day feeds for $5 or $50/year, 10 day feeds for $10 per month or $100/year or 30 day feeds for $30 per month or $300/year and it costs you an extra 50% for each extra camera that you want to add. You don’t have to use this service your camera will store 3 hours of feed free of charge although you get 30 days of use as a free trial to see if you think you will use it enough to justify a subscription but most people feel you need it to get the best out of your camera.
You have options within the app to turn your camera on or off, put it on a schedule if you don’t want to run it 24/7. You can turn on nest aware or turn it off if you don’t want it. You have night vision settings and you can share with members of your family. You can also turn off the small green LED light that shows it’s on so that people can’t tell just by looking that the camera is working. You can also set the notifications so if you only want them to happen when you’re away from home then you can.
Buyers love the fact that this camera is so easy to set up, the app makes everything easy to get your camera giving a live feed. They do feel you need to subscribe to get the best of the features. One customer used the camera feed to identify a thief that stole a package from the doorstep making it worth the install. The other thing that makes it stand out above others is that the feed is 24/7 and not motion detected clips so you don’t miss stuff or only catch the back of a visitors head.
The biggest gripe about this system is the cost of the subscription which can mount up if you want 3 or 4 cameras around your house. The other problem people have is the wi-fi connection on the camera, it buffers a lot and they can’t always get a connection. People don’t like to have to drill such a large hole to place the wire into their home and feel the design of that could be improved.
This Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera 2 pack is a great set of security cameras to have that are not mega expensive, they lend themselves to home installation and you can set them up with all of your other smart devices on the Alexa app. It’s very easy to access when you’re away from home so no need to worry when you’re on holiday or away on business. Although this is a 2 pack if you click the link below you also get the option of buying just 1 camera.
